In the last decade of the 19th century the old world began
to crumble under the march of armies and the widespread belief that the end of the world was
at hand. By the close of the Great War, the old world had indeed come to an end. We will sing
music composed during and about this painfully beautiful time—the music of Zemlinsky,
Wolf, Debussy, Strauss, Grainger, Ives and close with Schönbergs great benediction
to the old world Friede auf Erden (Peace on Earth). |
